Wood fired collection: mussel vase
€ 65,00

Description
This small vase is coated with a slip made from locally gathered mussel shells, which I collected along the river near my home. The shells were crushed by and mixed into the slip before application. A soft green celadon glaze was then applied over the surface, enhancing the subtle texture and depth of the shell-infused slip. The result is subtle layered surface.
Together with a group of ceramicists, we came together to take on the intensive process of firing in a large wood kiln. The kiln is slowly stoked with wood until it reaches 1300°C. It’s a process that requires constant attention to both flame and temperature, as these elements directly influence the final outcome.
As the flames move through the kiln, along with swirling wood ash, they interact with the pots inside leaving behind beautiful and unpredictable effects. It’s a raw, volatile and uncertain process where survival of each piece is not guaranteed. The works that make it through always carry the story of the fire, with small imperfections, variations and textures that reflect the unique charm of woodfiring.

GOOD TO KNOW
The sizes mentioned are approximations, and there may be slight variations.
Keep in mind that all products are handmade. They will never be as machine-made ceramics. The charm of handmade items lies in the fact that you can literally see the creator in them, at least that’s what I believe.
